Sir John Eliot Gardiner, Conductor

Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks

Monteverdi Choir

Gustav Holst’s The Planets is as famous as it is rarely performed: this unique piece has featured only twice on the programmes of the Bavarian RSO in its 70-year history. Now John Eliot Gardiner will conduct these seven monumental character studies of Roman gods who lent their names to the planets. Hardly less sophisticated and ingenious are the British folk song adaptations by Percy Grainger, an Australian-born composer for whom Gardiner has a special fondness. In this all-English programme the Bavarian RSO will greet Gardiner’s legendary Monteverdi Choir for the first time – a most promising encounter!
