SEason 2022/23
A penchant for romantic music, modernism and jazz
Over the past four years Kirill Gerstein has given eye-opening concerts with the BRSO – not with the standard piano literature. He plays less well-known pieces whose severe technical demands have long kept them, for the most part, outside the repertoire. Bernstein’s The Age of Anxiety and the piano concertos of Schoenberg and Adès become thrilling and spell-binding works in his hands.
Together with the composer Thomas Adès, he gave a recital of rarely heard works in the then newly launched chamber music series Watch This Space, including Debussy’s En blanc et noir, Adès’s Concert Paraphrase on “Powder Her Face” and Ravel’s La Valse. Gerstein places his artistic focus primarily on music of the 20th and 21st centuries, but is equally happy to play the romantic repertoire and jazz. In this season he will again thrill his audiences as the orchestra’s artist-in-residence.
NEW: PRICE-BENEFIT WITH THE ARTIST IN RESIDENCE PACKAGE
For the concerts with Kirill Gerstein, the BRSO offers an Artist in Residence package with the bonus concerts to Watch This Space, which can be booked from July 26, 2022. In the package, tickets for the individual concerts are thus 20% cheaper.
