In honor of their long-standing Chief Conductor Mariss Jansons, who passed away on December 1, 2019, the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra and Choir will perform Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 2, the “Resurrection Symphony”, on Wednesday, 15 January 2020 at the Philharmonie in Munich’s Gasteig. The distinguished conductor of this memorial concert will be Zubin Mehta, a close personal friend of Mariss Jansons over many years. We are thrilled to welcome Golda Schultz (soprano) and Gerhild Romberger (alto) as soloists.
The net proceeds from the sale of tickets for the concert on January 15 will be donated to the foundation of the “Neues Konzerthaus München”, in support of the project for which Mariss Jansons advocated tirelessly and with great passion over the past 16 years – in the service of musical life in Munich and beyond.
5.45 pm: Introductory talk with Dr. Renate Ulm and the musicians Werner Mittelbach, clarinet, and Heinrich Braun, principal double bassist.
