Mariss Jansons cancels concerts

Mariss Jansons Dirigent des Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks (c) Astrid Ackermann

To his great regret, Mariss Jansons needs to cancel his obligations with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra for the month of November.

Mariss Jansons is well on the road to recovery from a serious viral infection, but his doctors have advised him not to conduct the upcoming concerts in Munich as well as the tour to Taiwan, Japan and Korea in order not to jeopardize his return to full health.

We are pleased to have secured exceptional replacements both for the Munich concerts as well as for the Asian tour on extremely short notice.

Simone Young, Cristian Macelaru and Manfred Honeck will conduct the concerts in Munich.  Zubin Mehta will lead the tour concerts in Asia.

The program of the concerts on November 1 and 2 remains unchanged.  Because of limited rehearsal time, the programs on November 9 and 10 needed to be changed.  Igor Levit will also join the orchestra as soloist in Beethoven Piano Concerto No. 4 for the program on November 10.
