Mariss Jansons has thought up something special for Ludwig van Beethoven’s 250th birthday. Rather than conducting the nine symphonies, which he has already issued in a fine recording, he will perform the major overtures as a string of symphonic pearls. Each of them, whether Egmont, Leonore or Coriolanus, is a masterpiece. These gems, spread across three concerts, will be followed by the Triple Concerto (5/6 March) and the Violin Concerto (7 March). Anne-Sophie Mutter will take the solo part in the Violin Concerto and will join pianist Yefim Bronfman and cellist Maximilian Hornung in the Triple Concerto.
