Emma Schied

Oboes

Emma Schied studied oboe with Celia Nicklin and Douglas Boyd at London’s Royal Academy of Music and with Maurice Bourgue at the Geneva Conservatoire de Musique, graduating with honours from both institutions. She was a founding member of the Mahler Chamber Orchestra and plays solo cor anglais in the Lucerne Festival Orchestra. Before then she was a member of the Budapest Festival Orchestra (solo oboe) and the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra. On the side she appears as a guest artist (also as soloist) in many leading orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestre National de France, the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Orchestre de Paris.

Emma Schied is also a committed chamber musician, playing with Ensemble À Vent Paris-Bastille and with soloists from the Mahler Chamber Orchestra and the Lucerne Festival Orchestra, and appearing regularly at the Charlottesville Chamber Music Festival in Virginia. She is a teacher in the Verbier Festival Junior Orchestra and gives instruction throughout the world. Her career has been accompanied by numerous awards and distinctions, including the Leila Bull Oboe Prize, Her Royal Highness Princess Alice’s Prize, the John West Prize, the Macklin Bursary Award and the European Scholarship Award for Young Artists.

She has been a permanent member of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra since April 2016.
