about the programme

In September 2021 British conductor Edward Gardner, the long-term director of the English National Opera and, since 2015, the principal conductor of the Bergen PO, will take charge of the London Philharmonic – one of the most coveted positions in the world’s orchestral landscape. Time and again his many CD releases have created sensations, most recently his recordings of Elgar. Now he is giving his BRSO début with Elgar’s most famous creation, the rapturous late-romantic Enigma Variations. Although covid restrictions have forced the postponement of the Busoni concert planned by BRSO artist-in-residence Igor Levitt, audiences can now console themselves with another of his Beethoven interpretations.
