Highlights of the 2019/2020 season

Our season in numbers: 44 subscription concerts, 11 special concerts including a benefit concert, a family concert and an open air concert, 16 concerts on tour, as well as 6 chamber concerts and 5 concerts by the chamber orchestra.

We will be presenting 34 different programs at the Herkulessaal in the Residenz München and the Philharmonie at the Gasteig, with the closing concert of the season being the traditional open air concert “Klassik am Odeonsplatz”.

Apart from the symphonic heavyweights such as Bruckner, Brahms, Mahler and Tschaikowsky, the season’s program also includes less frequently performed works by Richard Strauss. As part of the Beethoven anniversary year 2020 we will also be honoring this exceptional artist in a number of concert programs: they include his violin concerto played by Anne Sophie Mutter, his triple concert, and all of his overtures. A personal highlight for our chief conductor Mariss Jansons are the performances of “Missa Solemnis” together with the chorus of the Bayerischer Rundfunk.

Every year, our successful education program reaches over 10,000 children and young people, and continues this season with around 50 projects and initiatives. We work with partners in Munich, but also in the greater Munich area as well as throughout Bavaria. In 2019/2020, members of the orchestra will again be working at a number of Bavarian schools as part of our work.
