about the programme
One instrument is particularly conspicuous in French music: the harp. Magdalena Hoffmann will conjure up the exhilarating Debussyean sound of her instrument in Debussy’s Danse sacrée et danse profane, along with the string quartet. No less essential to the inimitable French sound is the flute: when it converses intimately with the viola in Ibert’s Deux nterludes, their dialogue takes place above the undulating ground of a harp. Wave-like arpeggios for this instrument can also be heard in the Quintet for Harp, Flute, Violin, Viola and Cello by the composer-admiral Jean Cras, a work possibly inspired by the author’s long journeys at sea. The 20th-century music of Cras, Debussy and Ibert will receive an exciting contemporary foil with Guillaume Connesson’s String Quartet, a work composed in 2008.
BRSO-concerts without live audience until april 5, 2021
On March 3, 2021, the Federal Chancellor and the heads of government of the federal states decided to extend the lockdown until March 28, 2021, among other measures to contain the corona pandemic. The orchestra’s anticipation of being able to play in front of a live audience again after Lockdown is great. Unfortunately, it is extremely unlikely that this will be possible before Easter. Therefore the BRSO has decided not to give concerts in front of a live audience up to and including April 5 (Easter Monday).
BR will endeavour to broadcast the concerts on radio, television or streaming in order to maintain cultural life and to fulfil its task of making the concerts of its orchestras and musica viva accessible to the public. Unfortunately the chamber concert will not be broadcast.
