Information about the programme
Two of Bavaria’s leading orchestras have joined forces for a friendly exchange. Each will give a concert in the other’s city: the Bamberg Symphony in Munich, the BRSO in Bamberg. In the Munich programme the audience will witness Jakub Hrůša not as a guest of the BRSO, but with “his own” orchestra. Since 2016 this Czech conductor has headed the Bamberg Symphony with great success and even made sensational CD releases, including a Brahms and Dvořák cycle. A sample of their Dvořák readings will be given with the composer’s last and best-known symphony, the Ninth (the “New World Symphony”). Before then Julia Fischer will play the world premiere of the violin concerto by Johannes X. Schachtner. Rather than taking up an extra-musical subject, Schachtner, a friend and musical confrère of Ms Fischer’s since their schooldays, has focused his untitled concerto entirely on the sound of the violin and its intrinsic harmony. The BRSO’s return visit in Bamberg, with Bruckner’s Fifth under Christian Thielemann, will take place in July.
