We open the 21/22 season with Beethoven: “From the heart, may it again go to the heart.” Thus Beethoven wrote at the head of the Kyrie in his Missa solemnis. We warmly welcome Sir John Eliot Gardiner and an excellent quartet of soloists. Tickets for the concerts on September 23 and 24 are now on sale.

In his début at the helm of the BRSO Philippe Jordan, the music director of the Vienna State Opera since 2020, devotes himself to life’s dark side and a theme from world literature that has held composers spellbound time and time again: Faust. The program includes Wagner’s Faust Overture, followed by Liszt’s Totentanz and the Faust Symphony. Tickets for the concerts on September 30 and October 1 in Munich’s Herkulessaal are already on sale.

We are very happy to welcome you again! Your safety is our top priority! We make sure that all necessary hygiene measures are taken. With the 14th Bavarian Infection Protection Measures Ordinance, which came into force on September 1, 2021, it is permitted to occupy all seats in the hall again. A mask is required in the entire building and also on your seat (FFP2 or medical surgical mask). In addition, proof of one of the “3 Gs” (tested, vaccinated, recovered) is required.

In fall 2021, the Gasteig will move and become the Gasteig HP8. During the renovation of the cultural center in Haidhausen, BRSO concerts will also take place in the new Isarphilharmonie at Hans-Preißinger-Strasse 4-8 (HP8) in Sendling. We have compiled the most important information about the new venue for you. Let’s move together!

The new season is online!

We  are delighted to announce our new season!  Magnificent artists will be our partners throughout, and we await the débuts of conductors Joana Mallwitz, Shiyeon Sung, Roderick Cox and Philippe Jordan in particular with keen anticipation. Johann Sebastian Bach’s St Matthew Passion, headed by our Chief Conductor designate Sir Simon Rattle, will number among the season’s highlights, as will the musica viva concerts for Wolfgang Rihm’s 70th birthday, which feature a number of works by the birthday celebrant himself. But our greatest pleasure will be to see you at our concerts!

As of now, BRticket and the subscription office are open again for customers. The office on the ground floor of the BR tower building on Arnulfstraße is starting the new season with changed opening hours.

Shortly after it was founded by Eugen Jochum in 1949 the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra (BRSO) developed into an orchestra of international repute. The British trade journal Gramophone placed it among the top ten of ‘the world’s greatest orchestras’, as did the Japanese music magazine Mostly Classic.

Whether in its Munich concerts or on its worldwide tours, the BRSO works on a regular basis with renowned conductors and soloists. It can boast of numerous CD releases and prizes, including a Grammy for ‘best orchestral performance’ and the German Record Critics’ Prize.

The core missions of the BRSO also include promoting young talent and cultivating the music of our time. From 2003 -2019 the orchestra has been headed by the Latvian conductor Mariss Jansons.
