It’s a double début at the Bavarian RSO as British conductor John Wilson, with his penchant for jazz and film music, and Louis Schwizgebel, a Swiss pianist of Chinese ancestry, place a focus on rhythm and percussion. The mood is already captured in Gershwin’s jazzy Concerto in F. The evening begins with André Previn’s musical-esque Overture to a Comedy. Previn, who died in February 2019 shortly before his 90th birthday, often played Concerto in F as both soloist and conductor. He also championed the music of Korngold, including Symphony in F sharp major with its echoes of Bruckner and Mahler. In short, this evening’s programme is a tribute to the pianist, conductor and composer André Previn.
Reunion in New York
As part of the fall tour in 2019, our solo cellist Lionel Cottet met his friend and longtime duo partner, pianist Louis Schwizgebel, in New York – at the place where the two lived together during their studies at the Juilliard School.
Get to know the two musicians in the following video.
