Okka von der Damerau, Mezzo-Soprano

Chor des Bayerischen Rundfunks

Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks

The new season of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra will get off to a flying start. Together with the BR Chorus and outstanding solo singers, they will summon all their vocal-symphonic powers in Munich’s Philharmonie to turn Gustav Mahler’s monumental “Resurrection” Symphony into an overwhelming experience. Guiding this mighty assemblage through Mahler’s sonic cosmos will be the BRSO’s longstanding associate, the British conductor Daniel Harding. Mahler’s Second Symphony of 1895 spans a five-movement arch from funeral dirge to Resurrection. In its fourth movement, the magical “Urlicht” from Des Knaben Wunderhorn, Mahler includes the human voice for the first time in his symphonic universe. Here mezzo-soprano Okka von der Damerau will enter the scene, joined by soprano Katharina Konradi in the grand choral finale. In a mighty climax, all the musicians will come together in the redemptive final apotheosis based on Klopstock’s ode Die Auferstehung: “Arise, yes, you shall arise, my dust, after a brief rest!”

Please note:
Unfortunately Hanna-Elisabeth Müller had to cancel her participation in the performances on September 26, 27 and 28. We are looking forward to the debut of Kyrgyzstan soprano Katharina Konradi, who will step in.
